A Comedy of Tenors

Show Synopsis

One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century – as long as producer Henry Saunders can keep Italian superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife, Maira, from causing runaway chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and madcap delight.

Characters
  • Tatiana Racon: Very tempting, seductive prima soprano and ex-lover of Tito’s. She likes to be the center of attraction. Age: 40-50+
  • Carlo: Another one of the world’s greatest tenors, but not so sure of himself. He is always thinking of the men who sing better than he does and always seem to think he has somewhere else to be. Age: 25+
  • Tito: One of the greatest opera singers in their world. Very insecure however, whines at times. Big man with big presence. Age: 60+
  • Maria: Tito’s current wife, and is buxom, beautiful, loud and stylish. Always pushing Tito around and loves to be the center of attention. Age: 50+
  • Mimi: Daughter of Tito and Maria. Very attractive young woman who is tempting, play games and a constant worry to her parents. Aged: 25+
  • Max: Used to be Saunders’ secretary until it was discovered in the previous play, Lend Me A Tenor, that he had a marvelous singing voice. Very nervous. Age: 35+
  • Saunders: One of the great empresarios in the world of opera. Very distinguished, nervous and funny. Age: 65+

  • Males auditioning for the roles of the 3 tenor characters, Tito, Carlo and Max will need to sing a short aria within the play accompanied by an Samuel French authorized karaoke recording of La Traviata 'Brindici' (The Drinking Song).
